Flea Shampoo Treatment — Cat Grooming Greenvale
An add-on treatment to any bath service — flea-targeting shampoo with extended contact time to kill adult fleas. Best paired with a vet-prescribed monthly preventative.
Who is the Flea Shampoo Treatment for?
Cats with active flea infestation, indoor cats living with dogs or other pets bringing fleas in, cats whose owners notice scratching or flea dirt.
About the Flea Shampoo Treatment
Flea Shampoo Treatment is an add-on to any of our bath-based services. We use a feline-safe, flea-targeting shampoo that immobilises and kills adult fleas during the bath. The conditioning rinse removes dead fleas and flea dirt from the coat. Most cats come out visibly more comfortable — fleas can cause significant skin irritation that owners only notice after the cat is finally relieved.
Flea shampoo is part of a full flea-management strategy, not a standalone solution. The shampoo only kills adult fleas on the cat at the time of bathing. Eggs in the home environment, fleas hiding in skirting boards and bedding, and re-infestation from other pets are all separate problems. We strongly recommend pairing flea shampoo with a vet-prescribed topical or oral monthly preventative (Bravecto, Revolution Plus, NexGard Spectra, etc.). Without the long-acting preventative, the cat will likely have fleas again within 1-2 weeks.
We do not use over-the-counter dog flea products on cats — many of these contain permethrin which is toxic to cats. Only feline-formulated products go through our doors.

Flea Shampoo Treatment — Frequently Asked Questions
Does flea shampoo work on its own?
Only briefly. It kills the fleas on the cat at the time of bathing, but eggs in your home will hatch over the next 2 weeks and the cat will be reinfested. Pair with a monthly preventative.
Is flea shampoo safe for kittens?
For kittens under 12 weeks we strongly recommend a vet visit instead of shampoo treatment — kittens dehydrate fast and have lower body temperature regulation.
Can I add flea shampoo to a Lion Cut?
Yes — most clients with active flea problems book a Lion Cut + Flea Shampoo together. The clipping reveals any flea dirt the bath missed.
My dog had fleas — does my cat need this?
Likely yes. Fleas move between pets in the same home. Treat all pets simultaneously and clean the environment.
Why doesn't Velvet Paws sell preventatives?
Because we are not registered to dispense veterinary medicines in Australia. Your vet or vet practice is the right place — many will sell a single dose without a full consultation.
