Belly Clip — Cat Grooming Greenvale
Clipping of the underside (belly, inner thigh, chest) only. Visible from below — your cat's top-side appearance is untouched. Helps with summer comfort and matting prevention.
Who is the Belly Clip for?
Long-haired cats prone to belly matting, cats overheating in summer, post-pregnancy queens, cats with skin folds that need air.
About the Belly Clip
The Belly Clip is a discreet under-side trim that addresses two common problems without changing your cat's overall look. From above, your cat looks identical. Only the belly, the inner thigh, and the chest fur are clipped short.
The first reason owners book it: matting tends to start on the belly because it rubs against floors, beds, and furniture. Catching mats early before they spread to the back coat saves a much harder grooming session later. The second reason: heat. Cats lose heat through bare-skin areas — the belly is the largest heat-exchange surface they have. Long-haired cats over summer often pant and seek tile floors; a belly clip relieves this without the visual change of a full lion cut.
Belly clips can be a stand-alone service or paired with a Bath & Blow-Dry for a more complete refresh. We sometimes recommend it as a starter service for cats new to grooming — it is shorter, less invasive, and helps the cat learn that the studio is a calm place.

Aftercare
For 24-48 hours your cat may feel slightly different and lick the clipped area briefly — this is normal. The exposed belly skin is sensitive to direct sun for the first week; keep windowsill nappers in shaded spots if possible. Avoid baths at home for 3-5 days.
Belly Clip — Frequently Asked Questions
Will my cat be cold with a belly clip in winter?
In Melbourne winters, a belly clip is fine for healthy cats — they self-regulate well. We avoid belly clips on senior cats or thin cats during the coldest weeks.
Can I see the clipped area?
Only when your cat is on their back. From any normal angle the clip is invisible.
Is the belly clip enough to prevent all matting?
It prevents belly-origin mats but does not stop matting elsewhere — neck, behind the ears and along the back legs are also common spots. For comprehensive matting prevention, regular brushing at home plus de-shedding spa every 8-12 weeks is the right combination.
Can it be combined with other services?
Yes — most often paired with Bath & Blow-Dry, sanitary trim, or nail trim.
